To the mountains & back

The following pictures are of a trip I made this summer to Bâlea Lake, Sibiu. One of the ways to get there from Bucharest is by going to Pitesti and then up north, passing by Curtea de Arges and by Vidraru. I had to make a stop there to admire the view, although it was quite cloudy...

After some quick shots, we continued our way on the Transfagarasan and finally reached our destination... I was surprised to see so many people at Balea Lake, as it was a Friday. The parking lot was full, the air was cold and the weather was just insane. You could see a blinding sun for one minute or two, and then a thick mist appeared above the lake and then started to rise to the mountain peaks.

We checked in at Paltinu (one of the two cabins there) and met the cutest and fluffiest guardian dog ever. His name is Boris and he's actually very naughty, as the waiter who was usually serving our dinner told us. :)

We climbed the mountains twice and I took pictures of all the flowers I saw. :D Here are some of them...

... and a little bird through the mist...

When we reached the top (the first time we climbed), the mist was so thick that the we couldn't see anything below us. No lake, no cabin, nothing...

The wind was so strong, that we soon decided to go back. As we were climbing down the mountain, we noticed that we had company. And I'm not talking about other tourists, but about two shepherds with their dogs and some suicidal sheep, practically throwing themselves off the cliffs. :))

The second time we climbed (towards another peak), we did not reach the top. We only had a few more cliffs to climb, but it started to rain heavily and we were not equipped for bad weather. However, before that, I managed to take a better picture of the whole lake. :D

When we left from Bâlea lake, we made several stops to enjoy the beautiful landscapes. We stopped by the waterfall, which we didn't properly see the first time, two days before, when we were kind of in a rush to get to the lake.

We then stopped at Vidraru again. This time the sky wasn't that dark, so I took a few more pictures of the lake, the dam and the Power Man. ;))

That's all folks! :)
